FRONT MATTER Before you start 01 Wear the finger cots. Skin oil marks a dial permanently. 02 Work on a clean, flat, light surface with nothing else on it. 03 Work over a tray or towel. Small parts bounce and vanish. 04 Never force anything. If it resists, stop and re- read the step. 05 Take your time. No step here is improved by rushing. 06 Allow about two hours the first time. The build itself is shorter than that, but rushing is how hands get bent — the extra time is there so you never have to hurry a step. STAGE 1 — SETTING UP 1 Set up your space Clear a flat, light surface. Work over a tray or towel so dropped parts don’t vanish, and put the finger cots on before you touch anything. STEP 1 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 1 — SETTING UP 2 Check your parts off Lay the kit out and check it against the list on page 3. Do this now — a part you discover is missing halfway through a build is a part you cannot work around. STEP 2 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 1 — SETTING UP 3 Seat the movement in the holder Place the movement in the holder with the dial side facing up and the blue stem at 3 o’clock. It comes back out in a moment for the dial work. STEP 3 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 2 OF 10 Preparing the dial S T E P S 4 – 9 FOUR FEET, TWO OF THEM CUT OFF The dial is made to fit more than one movement, so it carries four feet on its back. The NH35 uses two of them. The other two have to come off before the dial will sit down — this stage removes them. Cut the wrong two and the dial will not locate. WRISTBUILT PAGE 10
STAGE 2 — PREPARING THE DIAL 4 Turn the dial over Lift the movement out and set it somewhere safe for a moment. Lay the dial face down on the holder’s cushion so the four feet point up at you — the cushion is what protects the face, and this is the easiest moment in the whole build to scratch it. STAGE 2 — PREPARING THE DIAL 5 Find the feet to remove Two of the four feet line up with the NH35’s holes. The other two do not. The circled feet are the ones to remove. STEP 5 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 2 — PREPARING THE DIAL 6 Cut the first foot Take the pliers right down to the base of the foot and cut it flush. Hold the offcut with your other hand as you cut. WARNING Cut over a tray, with the dial face down and your fingers behind the blades. The offcut is small, sharp, and flicks. Brush the dial clean before it goes anywhere near the movement — a fragment of brass that falls inside will stop the watch. STEP 6 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 2 — PREPARING THE DIAL 7 Find the second foot Turn the dial and find the second foot to remove, on the opposite side. STEP 7 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 2 — PREPARING THE DIAL 9 Check the dial Two feet left, both cut stubs flush, no burr standing proud. Run a fingertip over each stub through the cot: anything you can feel will hold the dial off the movement. STEP 9 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 3 — FITTING THE DIAL 10 Line the dial up Put the movement back in the holder, dial side up, with the blue stem at 3 o’clock. Pick the dial up by its edges and turn it so the 3 o’clock side — the date window — sits over the stem. STEP 10 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 3 — FITTING THE DIAL 11 Lower it straight down Bring the dial down flat onto the movement with the two feet over their holes. Lower it. Don’t slide it across. STEP 11 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 3 — FITTING THE DIAL 12 Press the feet home Press gently on the dial, over each foot in turn, until it seats. WARNING If a foot will not go in, stop and re-check the alignment. Do not press harder. A foot pushed in crooked bends, and a bent foot means a dial that will never sit flat again. STEP 12 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 3 — FITTING THE DIAL 13 Check it sits flat Look across the dial at eye level. It should sit level on the movement with no gap at any edge. STEP 13 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 4 OF 10 Finding twelve o’clock S T E P S 1 4 – 1 7 WHY THE DATE TELLS YOU WHERE TWELVE IS The hands are not fitted yet, so there is nothing on the dial to point at twelve. But the movement knows: the date changes over at midnight. Advance the movement until the date flips and the hand pivots are standing exactly at twelve. Setting the time by eye instead will put every hand on at an angle you cannot correct later without levers. WRISTBUILT PAGE 22
STAGE 4 — FINDING TWELVE O’CLOCK 14 Pull the stem all the way out Pull the blue stem out to its furthest position. That stops the movement, so the pivots stand still while you work on them. Leave it out until step 34. STEP 14 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 4 — FINDING TWELVE O’CLOCK 15 Turn the stem away from you Turn the blue stem slowly away from you. The date wheel under the dial will start to creep round. STEP 15 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 4 — FINDING TWELVE O’CLOCK 16 Watch the date window Keep turning and watch the window, not the stem. The date will sit still, then change over in one movement. STEP 16 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 4 — FINDING TWELVE O’CLOCK 17 Stop the moment it flips The instant the new date lands, stop. Don’t turn any further. The movement is now at twelve o’clock — everything from here is fitted against that. STEP 17 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 OF 10 Fitting the hands S T E P S 1 8 – 3 4 THE FIDDLIEST PART OF THE BUILD Three hands, three pivots, each smaller than the last. Take them in order: hour, minute, seconds. Each hand is picked up on the green putty, laid on its pivot, and pressed straight down with a pusher. IF A HAND HAS TO COME OFF AGAIN Taking a fitted hand back off needs hand levers. Do not improvise with tweezers, a blade or the putty — you will bend the hand or the pivot under it. Stop and get in touch and we will sort it out. WRISTBUILT PAGE 27
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 18 Green putty The green putty picks a hand up without your fingers ever touching it, and lets go again without pulling it back off. Pinch off a piece and work it soft. STEP 18 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 19 Pick the hour hand up Press the very tip of the hour hand into the putty — the tip only, so the hole at the other end stays clear and visible. STEP 19 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 21 Lay the hand at twelve Lower the hand onto the centre pivot with the putty, pointing it directly at twelve. Line it up before any pressure goes anywhere near it. STEP 21 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 22 Press straight down Lift the putty clear, then hold the pusher vertical and press straight down onto the boss of the hand. WARNING Press straight down, never at an angle. A hand started crooked will not seat, and the pivot underneath bends before the hand does. STEP 22 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 23 Check the hour hand turns Turn the hour hand all the way round with the putty. It should turn freely, not touch the dial, and not be bent. Look across it at eye level. STEP 23 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 29 Check the two hands clear each other Turn both hands round together. They must not touch each other and must not touch the dial. Look across the dial at eye level to check the gap between them. STEP 29 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 30 Pick the seconds hand up This is the hardest step in the build — the pinion is much smaller. Pick the seconds hand up on the putty by its counterweight tip. STEP 30 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 32 Find the pinion Lower the hand until its hole is over the seconds pinion and move it about until you feel it drop on. You will feel the difference — a hand sitting on the pinion sits differently from one resting beside it. Do not press until you feel that. STEP 32 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 33 Press it home Once it has found the pinion, lift the putty clear, then press straight down. STEP 33 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 5 — FITTING THE HANDS 34 Test that it runs Push the blue stem all the way in. The seconds hand should start moving. Then pull the stem out again, turn all three hands round once, and check nothing scrapes and nothing is bent. STEP 34 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 6 OF 10 Removing the temporary stem S T E P S 3 5 – 3 8 THE HANDS MUST NOT TOUCH ANYTHING To release the stem you press a lever on the back of the movement, which means turning the movement over. The hands you have just fitted are now on the underside. Support the movement by its edge and keep the dial clear of the bench. Pressing a movement face-down onto a cushion to free the stem will bend the hands. WRISTBUILT PAGE 45
STAGE 6 — REMOVING THE TEMPORARY STEM 35 Turn the movement over Lift the movement out of the holder and turn it over so the back faces you. Hold it by its edge, with the dial and hands clear of everything. STEP 35 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 6 — REMOVING THE TEMPORARY STEM 36 Find the setting lever There is a small lever on the back of the movement, near the stem. Circled here. That is what releases the stem. STEP 36 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 6 — REMOVING THE TEMPORARY STEM 37 Press the lever and draw the stem out Hold the movement up, clear of the bench. Press down on the lever and, holding it down, pull the blue stem straight out. WARNING Keep the dial and hands clear of the bench, the holder cushion and your fingers the whole time. Nothing should ever bear on a fitted hand. Do not rest the movement face-down to do this. STAGE 6 — REMOVING THE TEMPORARY STEM 38 Set the stem aside Put the blue stem somewhere safe. You are finished with it, but it is the part you would need if anything had to come apart again. STEP 38 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 7 — PREPARING THE CASE 39 Unscrew the crown off the case Unscrew the crown off the case and set it down. It goes back on shortly, onto the steel stem. STEP 39 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 7 — PREPARING THE CASE 40 Screw the crown onto the stem Thread the crown onto the steel stem by hand until it stops. No thread locker yet — the stem still has to be cut to length, and the crown comes off again to do it. STEP 40 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 7 — PREPARING THE CASE 41 Open the case back Turn the case over. Press the case back ball down onto the case back and turn anti-clockwise, pressing as you turn. It will loosen. STEP 41 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 7 — PREPARING THE CASE 43 Lift the gasket out Inside the case back is a rubber gasket sitting in a groove. Lift it out with the tweezers and set it down. STEP 43 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 7 — PREPARING THE CASE 44 Grease the gasket Drop the gasket onto the pad inside the greaser, put the lid back on, and twist. The twist drags the gasket through the grease and coats it all the way round. WHAT THE GREASE IS FOR Grease keeps the rubber supple and helps the gasket sit and slide properly in its groove. It does not make the watch waterproof. See the safety page at the back. STEP 44 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 8 — CASING THE MOVEMENT 46 Line the stem hole up Hold the case over the movement and turn the movement until the hole in the side of the movement — where the stem goes in — lines up with the hole in the side of the case. STEP 46 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 8 — CASING THE MOVEMENT 47 Place the movement into the case The case comes down over the movement, not the movement up into the case. Keep the two stem holes lined up and press down evenly. STEP 47 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 8 — CASING THE MOVEMENT 48 Check it is seated You should hear or feel a click or two. Turn the case over: the movement should not move or fall out. IF IT WILL NOT GO DOWN Stop pressing. The movement is almost always rotated. Lift the case away, turn the movement until the two stem holes line up, and bring the case down square. STEP 48 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 OF 10 Stem and crown S T E P S 4 9 – 5 5 CUT IT SHORT IN STAGES, NEVER IN ONE GO The stem arrives longer than your case needs. You measure the excess, cut a little, test-fit, and repeat. A stem cut too short is scrap — there is no way back. Six small cuts is a normal first build. WRISTBUILT PAGE 62
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 49 Slide the stem in Push the crown and stem gently into the case and into the movement. You will know it is in when you can no longer pull it out. WARNING Never force the stem. It will snap before the movement gives. STEP 49 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 50 Measure the excess Push the crown in as far as it goes and measure the gap between the crown and the case with a ruler. That gap is roughly how much stem has to come off. STEP 50 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 51 Release the stem Press down on the setting lever — you can press it against the bench now, because the movement is in the case and the hands are protected — and pull the stem out. STEP 51 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 52 Cut a little off Take the crown off the stem, and cut less than you measured. You can always take more off; you can’t put it back. Cut over the tray. WARNING Hold the offcut as you cut, keep your fingers behind the blades, and cut over the tray. The offcut flies. STEP 52 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 53 Test-fit Screw the crown back on, slide the stem in, and look at the crown against the case. Not flush yet? Take it out and repeat steps 51 to 53. About six cuts is normal for a first build. STEP 53 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 54 Test it properly When the crown sits flush against the case, test it before anything permanent happens: pull the crown out, set the time, push it back in. It should pull out, set, and push home cleanly. STEP 54 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 9 — STEM AND CROWN 55 Thread locker and fit for good Take the crown off one last time. Put one small drop of thread locker on the stem thread, screw the crown back on, and slide the stem home gently. WARNING Only do this once step 54 has passed. Thread locker on a stem that is still the wrong length means a replacement stem. STEP 55 / 62 WRISTBUILT

STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 56 Clean everything before you close it Wipe the crystal, the inside of the case back and the case edge with a clean cloth. STEP 56 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 57 Check for dust Hold the watch under a light and look across the dial at an angle. Any speck of dust or fibre on the dial or the underside of the crystal is sealed in for good once the back goes on. Blow or lift it off now. STEP 57 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 58 Seat the gasket Lay the greased gasket back into its groove in the case back. Run round it once with a fingertip: it should sit flat all the way round, not twisted, not riding up. STEP 58 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 59 Start the case back by hand Put the case back on and turn it clockwise by hand until it starts to thread. WARNING If it will not start by hand, stop. Take it off, check the gasket is lying flat, and start again. Forcing a case back cross-threads it. STEP 59 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 60 Tighten it down Press the case back ball on and turn clockwise until it is firm. Stop as soon as it stops turning easily. Do not overtighten. STEP 60 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 61 Peel the film and wipe down Lift the protective film off. Take the finger cots off and wipe the whole watch down with a clean microfibre cloth — every fingerprint you have left on it comes off now. STEP 61 / 62 WRISTBUILT
STAGE 10 — CLOSING THE CASE AND FINISHING 62 Set it and wear it Pull the crown out, set the time, and push it back in. The NH35 is automatic: wear it and the motion of your wrist winds it. If it has stopped, turn the crown to wind it, or rock the watch gently until the seconds hand starts. You built that. STEP 62 / 62 WRISTBUILT
BACK MATTER If something isn’t right WHAT TO DO Check the headings on the next pages for the one that matches what you are looking at. WRISTBUILT PAGE 78
IF SOMETHING ISN’T RIGHT — 1 OF 3 A hand won’t stay seated FIX Check you are pressing straight down with the pusher held vertical. A hand started at an angle will not hold. If it still will not seat, the hole in the hand or the pivot beneath it is likely damaged. Stop there and get in touch — taking the hand off again needs levers, and we will arrange a replacement part. Hands touch each other, or touch the dial FIX One hand is sitting too low or too high. Look across the dial at eye level to see which. Correcting it means taking that hand off and refitting it, which needs hand levers — get in touch rather than trying to lift it with what is in the kit. The seconds hand doesn’t move when the crown is pushed in FIX The hand is sitting beside the pinion rather than on it. Check that the movement runs at all: look at the balance wheel through the case back. If the balance is turning and the seconds hand is not, the hand is not seated. WRISTBUILT PAGE 79
IF SOMETHING ISN’T RIGHT — 2 OF 3 The dial won’t sit flat FIX One of the cut feet has left a burr, or a foot went in crooked. Lift the dial, feel each stub, and check both remaining feet are straight. The crown doesn’t sit flush against the case FIX The stem is still too long. Take the crown off, take a little more off the stem, and test-fit again before any thread locker goes near it. If you have already fitted a crown with thread locker and it stands proud, a replacement stem is the safer route. The case won’t go down over the movement FIX Stop pressing. The movement is almost always rotated: its stem hole has to line up with the hole in the case. Lift the case away, turn the movement, and bring the case down square. WRISTBUILT PAGE 80
IF SOMETHING ISN’T RIGHT — 3 OF 3 The case back won’t seat flat FIX Take it off and look at the gasket. If it is twisted, pinched or riding up out of its groove, lay it flat again all the way round before you retry. Never force a case back that is sitting proud. The watch stops when I take it off FIX Nothing to fix. An automatic winds from the motion of your wrist and runs for about a day and a half off the wrist before it stops. WRISTBUILT PAGE 81
BACK MATTER Important safety information NOT WATER RESISTANT This watch should be treated as not water resistant. Steps 43 to 45 and step 58 remove, grease and refit a rubber gasket. Fitting that gasket does not make the watch waterproof. Whether the watch seals depends entirely on how you seat the gasket, the case back and the crown, so no rating can be promised. Keep it dry. 01 The parts are small and some are sharp. Keep the kit, the cut-off dial feet and the cut-off piece of stem away from children and pets. 02 Cutting the dial feet and the stem flicks the offcut. Cut over the tray, and keep your fingers behind the blades. 03 Thread locker and gasket grease are chemicals. Follow the maker’s own instructions, keep them off your skin and eyes, and work in a ventilated room. WRISTBUILT PAGE 82
